Jet2 from Manchester to Barcelona and return

How was the journey?
Seamless. Jet2 is excellent as always. Queues at check-in were processed quickly. Friendly service onboard. The price for trolley refreshments is reasonable and not worth buying at the airport. On arrival at Barcelona, we were met and transferred to the ship. We were very fortunate to have RockStar status onboard, so we were able to board as soon as we arrived. We were processed quickly and received our bracelets. Your sailor bracelet is your key to everything onboard, from your room to charging for drinks.

Hotels

Where did you stay?
Our home for the week was Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady. Launched in 2020, it’s just had a refresh and looks amazing.

Were there any special features?
I was lucky to have a sea terrace balcony cabin. All sea terraces are equipped with a hammock. I particularly enjoyed finishing waking up in the morning in my hammock. I’d stumble from my bed to the hammock to enjoy the morning sunshine and watch the waves as we sailed along while I fully came to!

What was your stay like? Did you enjoy it?
We cruised from Barcelona to Rome and back, calling at Civitavecchia (for Rome), Marina di Carrara (for Pisa and Florence), Ajaccio in Corsica and Ibiza. As with most Virgin Voyages’ itineraries, an overnight in port is included somewhere, which allows for extended time to explore. For us, we had an overnight in Ibiza, where some of the sailors enjoyed Ibiza’s legendary nightlife!

Any recommendations?
My favourite place on the ship was The Dock at the aft of the ship on Deck 7. Overlooking the wake, it had lovely shady places to lie and enjoy the sea air and sun on sea days. It has a bar and they serve tapas plates all day long. All you need to do is raise your hand and the lovely staff come running with another ice-cold drink. The hanger steak, pittas and prawn skewers were a fave!

Activities

Where did you go?
A full day sightseeing was the agenda in Rome, where we took in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and the Forum and Colisseum. Far too much to see in one day, but definitely a taster for a further visit one day.

Did you learn any fun facts or see anything exciting?
Onboard the range of different entertainment options is amazing. For a company with its roots in the entertainment business, you’ll not be surprised to learn that entertainment is first-class onboard. There’s live music at each of the bars every night, along with live shows and dancing! We enjoyed the 80’s night in particular, along with another signature VV night – Scarlet Night, where Sailors rock their best red attire, enjoy various happenings around the ship and finish the night in a mammoth pool party on deck!

Any recommendations?
Don’t forget your trainers and gym gear. On all VV sailings, the full exercise programme is available to you as part of your fare. From a fully equipped gym and spinning studio, to a varied exercise class programme, it's all there to be enjoyed. I tried a bungee class and a 90s boyband dance routine class!! Another signature VV feature is the Runway – a running track high up on deck 17 where you can run or walk with unbeatable views of the ocean.

Food/Drinks

Did you go to any local restaurants/cafes?
All food is included on Virgin Voyages, as are all your soft drinks and tea and drip coffee. Your room stewards will keep your water pitchers in your cabin topped up with your choice of still or sparking water. There are 18 different places to eat onboard, from signature restaurants such as The Wake which serves steak and seafood; Extra Virgin, with an Italian menu; Pink Agave with a modern take on Mexican food; Razzle Dazzle which is Asian fusion and another fave, Gumbae a lively Korean table top barbecue. Food is theatrical on Virgin Voyages and every meal is an occasion! If you are still hungry, there’s pizza at the Pizza Place, open until 2 am, and The Galley is open 24/7 for that middle of the night munchie craving!

What did you enjoy eating/drinking?
Poke bowls on the pool deck were a favourite!

Virgin Voyages is an adults’ only cruise line, so ideal for anyone who enjoys a kid-free holiday! It would be a great option for anyone who enjoys going out for meals or a night out at home, as every night onboard is like a Friday night! There’s no dress code, so it’s very relaxed too. With all the inclusions in your fare, it's great value for money. All your food and essential drinks are included, as are wi-fi and gratuities, and all your entertainment and exercise classes. The only thing you need to pay for is any alcohol, speciality coffees or mocktails you might want to enjoy. You can purchase a bar tab before you go, and Virgin Voyages will even add a bit to your account as a top-up to help you celebrate onboard!
